The scholars say:
ุชุฑู ุงูุฃุฎุฐ ุจุงูุฃุณุจุงุจ ู
ุนุตูุฉุ ูุงูุชููู ุนูู ุงูุฃุณุจุงุจ ุดุฑู
โRelying solely on the โmeansโ is Shirk,
and abandoning the โmeansโ is a Sin.โ
It means: if a man sees that the roof is collapsing on his head, and he just sits there, asking & relying on God to save him โ he is sinful and this is suicide.
If he believes that these โmeansโ alone can save him without God, heโs not a believer.
One should combine actions with supplications & reliance on God.
A man came to a pious man and said: โMake Duโa that I become a father.โ The pious man made Duโa for him. As the man was leaving, the pious man said to him: โDonโt rely solely on my Duโa. Donโt forget to do your part.โ
